The main one though... You know that feeling when you hear something and immediately think, why don't we have that for podcasting? That happened to me.
Kit just launched a feature called Subscriber Signals.
The idea behind it is wild in the best way. Instead of just knowing how many people are on your email list, Subscriber Signals tells you who they are.
We're talking real data: their industry, location, social reach, and even their job title. You can get notified the moment a high-value person joins your list. You can search your subscribers like a database (think: CEO, author, podcaster). You can build a sponsorship deck with one click based on verified audience data.
Basically, you finally get to meet the people behind the email addresses.
And sitting in that conference room, I thought...
WHY DON'T WE HAVE THIS IN PODCASTING?!
my real reaction being jealous that this is not for podcasters
Right now, you can open Spotify or Apple Podcasts and see download numbers. Maybe your listener location breakdown if you're lucky. But who is actually listening?
The founder in Seattle who's been following you for two years? The marketing director who has been quietly recommending your show to her entire team?
YOU HAVE NO IDEA.
Email marketing has been ahead of podcasting on this for a long time, and Kit just leveled it up even further.
In my dream world, podcast platforms would track signals too. Imagine knowing that a brand strategist with 50K Instagram followers just listened to your last three episodes back to back. Or that a journalist downloaded your interview and shared it.
That kind of data would completely change how we pitch sponsors, reach out to collaborators, and grow our shows. and probably even the content we create.
For now, the closest thing we have is building an email list that backs your podcast so you can own that relationship data yourself. Which, honestly, is exactly why I keep preaching the email list + podcast combo to every single client.
Because while we wait for podcast platforms to catch up... you don't have to be in the dark about your audience.
If that's something you want help building, a podcast and an email funnel that can give better insights into actually who's listening, hit reply. I'd love to chat.
