Your next season doesn't need better mics. It needs a better plan.

Hey, Reader.

I want to tell you about two different strategy sessions I hosted this week: Different industries. Different shows. NO reason to be thinking about the same thing.

But still with that, they landed on the exact same move.

Both are heading into their next season. Both started the call assuming the fix was more polish (meaning better editing, a tighter format, maybe a rebrand.) Both ended the call scrapping that plan entirely.

Here's what they decided instead: move away from the generic guest-interview format, and build a season tied directly to what actually grows the business.

One is building episodes around the real psychology behind their service: not "talk to interesting people," but content doing actual positioning work. The other is building a season designed to convert listeners into people they can reach again, not just people who happened to catch one episode.

And both are pairing it with the same second move: a real lead-gen tool attached to the show that leads to a nurture sequence. Something that turns "someone listened to an episode" into "I can talk to this person again next week" INSTEAD of hoping the algorithm resurfaces you.

That's the shift worth paying attention to if you're planning your next season or iteration of your own.

Polish isn't the problem most shows have. Direction is. A more polished version of a show with no strategic throughline is still a show with no strategic throughline... it just sounds nicer while it does nothing for the business behind it.

If your podcast has been fine so far but hasn't really move your business forward, that's usually not an editing problem. It's a "what is this season actually for" problem.

If you want a second set of eyes on your show, that's exactly what a strategy session is for.

Hayleigh
