Hey Reader,

Last week I taught podcasting to fourth and fifth graders.

I know, so random. But a local elementary school invited me for career day and I said yes.

Here's the thing - I was nervous. I don't have kids. I am never around kids. And I had no idea if they'd even know what a podcast is!

Turns out? They absolutely do.

They listen with their parents. They watch on YouTube. And they think it's cool.

So I gave each class a challenge: brainstorm a podcast in 25 minutes. Come up with a title, a topic, and who you'd interview.

And honestly? Their ideas were so good.

One group wanted to interview dogs about their favorite breakfast foods.

Another wanted a show called Misunderstood—all about sharks, crocodiles, and other animals that get a bad rap.

The sports kids wanted to interview pro athletes while they played sports they're terrible at.

Others pitched shows about traveling to interview cafe owners, video game developers, Greek mythology, crochet... the list goes on.

They weren't overthinking it. They were just excited. And creative.

And it reminded me of something we forget as podcasters:

We overcomplicate this.

We get so caught up in strategy, ideal listeners, SEO, funnels. And yes, those things matter. But the most important part? Making it fun.

Because if you're bored with your podcast, your audience will be too.

So here's my challenge for you:

If a room of fourth and fifth graders can brainstorm a full podcast in 25 minutes, so can you.

Stop waiting for perfect. Get curious. Think about what would actually be fun to create.
