I have to tell you about something that's been living rent-free in my head this week.
You've probably seen the news by now. Amazon just launched "Alexa Podcasts" — a feature where you tell Alexa a topic and it spits out a full AI-generated podcast episode in minutes, hosted by AI voices, pulling from major news outlets. Then Spotify announced Personal Podcasts — AI-generated episodes built right inside your Spotify app, based on your prompts and your listening history.
AI podcasts are officially here. And they're coming fast.
So I did what any curious person does, I put it on my Instagram stories.
"Would you listen to an AI podcast?"
100% of you said NO.
Not just no. Some of you were genuinely upset about it. DMing me. Feeling some kind of way.
I feel that too...
But here's the thing I can't stop sitting with:
How would we even know?
And I don't mean that to be cynical. It's just that AI is already tricking us in ways we don't realize: images, videos, writing. Would a well-produced AI voice really set off alarm bells?
Maybe not. And that thought is ~a little unsettling.~
Here's where I land though.
I help people polish their podcasts every single day. I clean up the audio. I smooth out the edits. I make things sound good. But the raw moments? The laugh that catches someone off guard? The pause before someone says something really honest? The story that wasn't even planned?
That stuff still comes through.
That's the human element. And that's what makes podcasting different from every other form of content.
It's not just information delivery. It's connection. Right now, in a world where AI-generated everything is flooding every platform, a real human voice, your voice, is becoming one of the rarest, most valuable things on the internet.
I don't have an answer on any of this. I genuinely don't. But I'm curious what you think.
