Hey Reader,
This Friday, I'm turning 29!
And I've been reflecting a lot lately on what I've learned in the past few years since starting my business - things about podcasting, building a business, and what actually works.
When I started out, I made so many mistakes. I wasted time on things that didn't matter. I overthought the wrong stuff and skipped over the essentials.
But over time, I figured it out.
And now? I get to help people like you skip all that trial and error and build podcasts that actually grow their businesses.
So in honor of turning 29, I wanted to give you something useful.
29 podcast tips you can actually use.
Plus a little birthday surprise at the bottom ๐
29 Podcast Tips That Actually Matter
- Your podcast needs a job. Not just "visibility." A real, specific role in your business.
- Consistency beats perfection. Every. Single. Time.
- Stop overthinking your intro. Get to the point faster than you think you should.
- Interviews? Prep your guest by telling them to listen to previous episodes. or send them a few questions that you will ask them. It will help the episode flow.
- Your show notes are SEO gold. Don't just slap a description up there...optimize it.
- Batch record when you can. Future you will be SO grateful.
- Use your podcast to warm people up, not close them. That's what your emails and calls are for.
- Repurpose everything. One episode = blog post, 3 social posts, email content, LinkedIn article. Minimum.
- Audio quality matters more than you think. Invest in a decent mic. Your listeners' ears will thank you.
- Edit out the ums and ahs. Seriously. It tightens everything up and makes you sound 10x more polished.
- Don't wait for the "perfect" name. You can always rebrand later. Just start.
- Your podcast should have a clear CTA. What do you want listeners to do next? Tell them.
- Guest on other podcasts too. It's one of the fastest ways to grow your own show.
- Write your episode titles like email subject lines. Make people want to click.
- If you're doing interviews, ask better questions. Skip the surface-level stuff everyone else asks.
- Your listeners don't need you to be an expert at everything. They need you to be authentic and helpful. That's what guests are for.
- Promote before you publish. Tease the episode. Build anticipation.
- Tell stories. They're more memorable than advice alone.
- Track what's working. Not just downloads, track where listeners are coming from and what they're doing after they listen.
- Solo episodes convert better than interviews. Just saying.
- Don't ignore your back catalog. Promote old episodes that are still relevant.
- If your podcast feels like a chore, something's off. Redesign it so it fits your life, not the other way around.
- Add captions to your video clips. Most people watch on mute.
- Your email list + your podcast = unstoppable combo. Use them together strategically.
- Ask your audience what they want to hear. Then make that episode.
- Don't be afraid to take a break. Announce it, own it, come back stronger.
- Your voice is your brand. Let people hear the real youโnot some overly polished version.
- Outsource what drains you. Like editing, uploading, show notes, strategy! Hand it off and focus on what you do best.
- Have fun with it. If you're not enjoying the process, your audience will feel it.
AND because it's my birthday and I'm feeling generous, I'm doing something I don't normally do.
